Welcome! My name is Tara and I have 14 years’ experience providing counselling to people who are struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, emotion regulation, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship problems, difficult family dynamics, sexual violence, life transitions, racism/racial trauma, and trauma/PTSD related to childhood or adulthood. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Victoria and my Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto.
My approach is client centred and is based on anti-oppressive and trauma informed principles. I believe in empowering my clients to build on their existing strengths and providing them with the skills and tools they need to resolve their concerns successfully. I am dedicated to providing a safe space for my clients to explore and process their feelings so that they work towards greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance, which I believe are all key to emotional healing. I recognize that culture plays a major role in people’s lives and problems, therefore my approach to counselling is one where cultural factors can be comfortably discussed and respected.
I look forward to working with you!

“ To be vulnerable means to show up and be seen, to ask for what you need, to talk about how you're feeling, to have the hard conversations.”
I provide individual counselling and psychotherapy in-person at my office, by telephone, or virtually using a video platform. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness, Emotion Focussed, Solution-Focussed and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches and tailor my approach to your needs. I have a special interest in using EMDR because it can reduce the number of sessions required to see positive results by resolving the impact of past traumas and allowing clients to let go of painful feelings so that they can move forward with their life.
For video counselling I use a secure PHIPA compliant platform, which ensures the session is secure and confidential. Virtual counselling or telephone counselling offers flexibility if you have a busy schedule and is convenient if you would have difficulty attending regular sessions due to demands of work, parenting or other responsibilities. It also means you can do therapy from the comfort of your home.
For in-person counselling, my office is conveniently located close to Woodbine Subway station at 2069 Danforth Ave, Unit 2
